Under "Style for following paragraph", select List Bullet from the dropdown if it is not already selected. Right click List Bullet in the style pane and select Modify. Repeat this process with List Bullet 2, etc.įinally, make sure your list bullet styles are properly set to automatically apply on new paragraphs. Put the cursor anywhere on that paragraph that has that formatting and click on the List Bullet style name in the styles launcher. Go to each paragraph that is formatted similar to the List Bullet style you modified. Now you need to apply these newly modified styles to your document, or what you've done so far will have no effect. Repeat this process with List Bullet 2 and for each other level of bullet you have in your document.
Word bullet line spacing update#
Right click List Bullet in the style pane and select Update List Bullet to Match Selection. Put your cursor on one of the paragraphs in your document that has the first level bullet. Scroll the list of style names until you see List Bullet, List Bullet 2, etc. You can leave the other boxes checked or unchecked if you wish, but I suggest unchecking all of them. Select All Styles and Alphabetical from the dropdowns. Open the styles launcher (it is the button in the lower right corner of the Styles group on the Home tab.) Click Options in the lower right of the styles pane. There are list bullet styles already entered into the default template, and it is a simple matter to edit them to suit your needs. Trying to direct format bulleted paragraphs is a recipe for high blood pressure. I couldn't really find the right google phrasing for this exact problem, so I came here. How do I make it so the indent after the list comes naturally, and is the same as the previous indent? Then I have to go back and fix all that, and that's going to be tedious. But you can change the Line Spacing value of such paragraphs to 1, or even to 0.9 or 0.5 if suitable.
But I know that my boss will add a bulleted list and then just hit enter to get a new line of text, and not notice the spacing problem until he's done with it. You cannot have line breaks between automatic bullet points. As a work around, I've done the paragraph before the list and then started the one after, and gone back in and inserted the list between those two, so the spacing stays the same going forward. However, once I space down from that list and indent for a new paragraph, the indent will not be the same amount of space over as the previous indentations. When I made a bullet list, it tabs over just fine. Everything is fine BUT the following problem: To save myself work down the line, since he pretty much always does insane things to screw up the formatting, I want to basically "child lock" the document from a formatting standpoint. I'm working on a word document that I'm going to kick up to my boss for him to add stuff to. Bullet lists have become the bane of my existence in word.
